When Is a Medical Emergency?

Knowing what to do during a medical emergency can help you respond quickly. Some symptoms require urgent emergency care rather than waiting for a GP appointment.

Call 000 for an ambulance if someone has a life-threatening condition, such as severe difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, severe chest pain, significant bleeding or another situation where immediate emergency assistance may be required.

If you are uncertain whether a situation is an emergency, you can contact health services for advice. However, do not delay calling 000 when you believe someone’s life or immediate safety is at risk.

Edmondson Park Medical provides general practice care and can assess urgent medical concerns during practice hours. The clinic advises patients with urgent concerns to inform reception staff so the situation can be assessed appropriately.

In an emergency, always call 000.
