What Is Bulk Billing and How Does It Work?

Bulk billing is a Medicare billing arrangement where the Medicare benefit for an eligible service is assigned directly to the healthcare provider. When a service is bulk billed, an eligible patient does not pay an out-of-pocket consultation fee for that bulk-billed service.

Eligibility and billing arrangements depend on Medicare eligibility, the service provided and the practice’s current billing policy. Medicare billing requirements can also change, so patients should confirm the current arrangements before their appointment.

Edmondson Park Medical offers bulk-billed medical consultations for eligible Medicare card holders, subject to the practice’s current billing policy and applicable Medicare requirements. Patients who are not eligible for Medicare may be charged a private fee.

If you are unsure whether your appointment is eligible for bulk billing, contact the practice before your consultation. Reception can explain the current billing arrangements and any applicable fees.
